debra sue solecki

is not native to Ohio but has been calling the Buckeye state home since 1986. When she is not encouraging young artists in the Strongsville City Schools, she is busy working in her studio. Debra Sue's fine art has been displayed in multiple gallery shows and juried exhibitions in the midwest. The evolution of her artwork has taken her through an exploration of drawing, painting and mixed media assemblage.

"As a person passionate about environmental sustainability, I was excited to hear about the repurposing of the wind turbine blades. As an artist I was thrilled to be asked to become part of the project. Working with Canvus was a great experience, I would recommend it to any artist!"

rise above

about the piece

I used Ohio's natural marshlands as inspiration. The lotus flower is a symbol of rebirth and strength. Similarly, the dragonfly morphs from its underwater birth to rise above and soar in the sun. I chose to use positive affirmations on the inside of the piece. I wanted the viewer to be surrounded with positive energy. I like the title “Rise Above” for this piece as the actual materials have gone through a rebirth, rising out of the trash and being morphed into a beautiful new functional art piece that can be enjoyed by many.
