The Jungle Gym

The design idea for this piece came in when thinking about the children and parents who would both be on and around these pieces. Since the canvas I was working on was so unconventional in shape, a pattern would be more suitable than painting a scene I am used to creating in my children’s books. I chose animals that kids wouldn't see every day, but ones that they would be familiar with from their books and media. The colors I chose are also a big part of this piece. There are many bright colors implemented to capture kids' attention, but they are different from traditional playground colors so they stand out in a different way.

Madeline Salata
Madeline Salata is an illustrator currently creating from Cleveland Ohio and a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art where she got her bachelors in illustration with a creative writing minor. Her focuses for her creative illustration practice include specifically children's book illustrations for picture books, any kids lit art, food illustration, and editorial. Madeline's work has been featured at the Rock and Roll Hall Hall of Fame and downtown Cleveland for the NBA All-Star game 2022.
