This piece is inspired by my daily walks with my daughter in late August when our neighborhood is filled with sunflowers popping up. All of the different shapes and textures they have are so unique. I wanted to highlight their beauty and how they are a crucial food source for bees. This lovely pairing sparked the idea of the hive in the interior of the structure.

Derek Brennan
Derek Brennan has completed nearly 40 murals since 2016 - primarily in the Cleveland area. Most recently, he has worked on large scale projects for MetroHealth, The Cleveland Museum of Art Community Arts Center, and The Cleveland Public Auditorium. With all of his mural work, his goal is to connect with people and encourage them to interact with art. Murals are for everyone - you don’t have to be an art critic to appreciate and understand the impact a mural has on a space.
